Invest in your comfort with a heat pump

Saving money on heating and cooling your home is always your priority. And we’re right there with you! Therefore, we thought you’d be particularly interested in learning about the benefits of buying and installing heat pumps, such as energy savings, comfort, and convenience.

We install Mitsubishi Brand heat pumps only as Hoerner Choice Heat Pumps and A/C mini splits.

How does a Heat Pump work?

Providing efficient heating and cooling of homes, heat pumps move heat from one point to another. A variety of models are available, including ductless models.

In heat pumps, heat is transferred between two places. As mentioned above, there are three essential components to a heat pump: the outdoor unit (condenser), the indoor unit (evaporator) and the refrigerant. The refrigerant transfers heat between the outdoor and indoor units as it circulates.

  • An evaporator converts the liquid into gas by forcing it to vaporize (air or solar energy).
  • The compressor raises the temperature of the gas by compressing it.
  • As the gas exits the condenser, the heat is exchanged with the heating system, and the gas returns to its liquid state.
  • Expansion valves lower the pressure of refrigerants, resulting in evaporation and thus creating a new cycle.

Cooling your home simply involves reversing this cycle.

Heat pumps, including refrigerators, operate in one direction. Hot air is expelled out of a refrigerator after passing across its compressor coils. The air source heat pump is a relatively energy-efficient method of heating, since it uses heat already present in the air outside (yes, the winter air is heated).

In the summer, air conditioners and heat pumps reverse directions. In other words, you can send heat from your house to the outside, keeping you cool. Because they are more efficient than air conditioners, they are more cost-effective. Many Canadians make the switch because of it.

Isn’t Gas Cheaper?

Is electricity costly? If you do the math, however, a heat pump is more economical than gas. Heat is measured using a metric called the coefficient of performance (COP). A COP measures how much energy is used to produce heat.

A heat pump has a higher COP rating compared to a gas or propane furnace. Despite the differences in gas and electricity rates, this would result in significant savings. Let us help you figure out which heat pump would be the right one for you.

Heat Pump Benefits

Many of the benefits of installing a heat pump will become apparent to you immediately after installation.

1. Lower costs and increased efficiency
Heat pumps are more efficient than standard heating systems. According to Natural Resources Canada, a heat pump will produce 3.3 kWh of heat per kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity consumed at 10°C. It is true that the temperature of heat pumps fluctuates, but they are a better option for people who want to minimize their environmental impact.

A heat pump is also an excellent choice if you want to save money, and let’s face it, who wouldn’t? A heat pump will come in handy if you want to reduce your electric costs.

Gas furnaces are often used to heat homes. By reducing how much you use it (since it works regardless of temperature), you will see savings on your heating bills.

In Ontario, half of your electric and gas bills are just for heating, so that’s a considerable amount of savings.

In addition to heating your home, modern air source heat pumps can also heat your water. You could potentially save up to 50% on your water heating bills.

2. Heat and cooling are interconnected
Don’t let the name fool you – heat pumps are often used as air conditioners! During the summer months, the process reverses, with warm air being emitted from your house. In addition to cooling you down, this will dehumidify your home. Heat pumps thus replace air conditioners more efficiently.

3. Low Maintenance Makes Your Life Easier
Choosing a heat pump as your home heating and cooling system is a no-hassle, no-muss solution. A heat pump is one of the most convenient systems available. When you use our maintenance plans, there’s even less work for you to do.

4. Combustion doesn’t occur so they’re more safe
Every year, furnaces should be inspected for carbon monoxide leaks. A leak from this invisible killer could pose a serious threat to you and your family. Electric heat pumps do not burn fuel in your home, so they’re a safe heating option.

5. They are durable
The average life expectancy of a heat pump is 15 years. It has a great lifespan. Keep in mind, though, that the better care you give your home’s heating and cooling systems, the longer they will last.

FS Mitsubishi Heat Pump -15 Reg vs. -25 Hyper Heat

The FS Mitsubishi has two models: the -15 reg and the -25 hyper heat. Here’s what you need to know about the differences between them:

Heating Capacity and Efficiency: The -15 reg model is designed to work at temperatures as low as -15°C, while the -25 hyper heat model can operate efficiently in temperatures as low as -25°C. This makes the -25 hyper heat model a better choice for Toronto’s colder winters.

Rebate Opportunities: To maximise your rebate opportunities, it’s recommended to install the -25 hyper heat model. The Heat Pump FS Mitsubishi -25 hyper heat model is eligible for the highest rebate amount under the Canada Greener Homes Grant. Additionally check out the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program – Part of the Canada Greener Homes Initiative if you are considering augmenting your oil heating system.

FS Mitsubishi Heat Pump -15 Reg vs. -25 Hyper Heat

When it comes to choosing between the two models, the main differences lie in their heating capacity and efficiency. The -15 reg model can provide heat at temperatures as low as -15°C, while the -25 hyper heat model can operate efficiently in temperatures as low as -25°C. This makes the hyper heat model ideal for the harsh winters experienced in the Greater Toronto Area.

But what does this mean for homeowners? Simply put, the hyper heat model can provide reliable and efficient heating even on the coldest days of the year. This means improved comfort and energy savings for homeowners. And with the Canada Greener Homes Initiative providing rebates of up to $5,000 for the installation of energy-efficient heat pumps, choosing the hyper heat model can maximise your rebate opportunities and further reduce your heating costs.
