Radiant Floor Heating
Disclaimer: please note -we work only on basement radiant slabs. Subject to availability.
Radiant floor heating, or underfloor heating works by warming up objects, rather than increasing the air temperature.
Hoerner Heating & Plumbing sells, installs and repairs this type of Floor Heating:
- Hydronic Radiant Floor Heating
Hydronic radiant floor heating is the most common type used in Toronto homes. It has come a long way since the first generation systems that came about shortly after World War II. Hoerner Heating & Plumbing proudly provides radiant floor heating to Toronto residences.
How Does Radiant Floor Heating Work?
Radiant floor heating systems use a network of metal or plastic tubes to blast hot water through the zone or room that needs to be warmed up. The heat is distributed through the floor surface, and radiated through objects and people in the room.
Benefits of Radiant Floor Heating
- Increased comfort in the home
- Enhanced energy-efficiency
- Silent operation
- Invisible installation
- More efficient than baseboard heating
- No heat loss via ducts (as with forced-air heating)
- No allergens, as with forced-air systems
- Hydronic radiant floor heating uses very little energy
- Variety of energy sources (oil-, gas-, or wood-fired boilers, solar water heaters, or a combination)
Radiant floor heating uses convection to distribute and circulate warmed air within a room. Since hydronic radiant floor heating does not distribute allergens, it can be used with ceramic tile, instead of carpets to eliminate allergies and asthma.
Hoerner Heating & Plumbing specializes in installation and servicing of radiant floor heating with high-temperature, leak-resistant, flexible polyethylene (PEX) piping, a durable alternative that does not become brittle and is not affected by water conditions or aggressive concrete additives.
Hydronic radiant floor heating can be installed in new homes, or retrofitted in existing homes, provided the structure of the building can support the weight of an additional layer of concrete poured over the floors, or that the underside of the subfloor is accessible. If the hydronic radiant floor heating is added to a basement, there should be sufficient height to allow for concrete to be poured above the insulation.
