You’ll have to dig a bigger hole in your basement floor to put in a bigger basin, but you’ll save a lot of money compared to replacing your sump pump every few years.
Continuously running
Sump pumps that run for long periods of time may be underpowered for the volume of water they handle or for the distance they must transport. This makes them run constantly. A sump pump is sized based on the amount of water it can pump. Consider upgrading to a larger model with a more efficient GPH to avoid breakdowns. Unusual noises
Sump pumps should not be noisy. You may be hearing more than a low hum during the operation of your sump pump, so check it out for potential failure. Flood prevention devices or preventing basement flooding are eligible for a subsidy of up to $3,400 per property ($1,250 for a backwater valve, $1750 for a sump pump) including:

- Getting a sump pump installed in Toronto

If you want to be eligible for a subsidy, your flood protection devices must meet the requirements. In order to apply for the City of Toronto Sump Pump Rebate, you must download the application form.
- A Toronto Building Officer will inspect your backwater valve after installation of a building permit.
- You will need to complete and sign the Consent to Enter Form to install a sump pump and backwater valve. A copy of this document should accompany your application for a Permit, and it is used to verify that your installation complies with Toronto Building’s rebate program.
Sump pumps: Do They Need a Battery Backup?
If you have a bad thunderstorm, your sump can still function properly, but the electricity could be knocked out; you would be left without the sump. For a few hours during a power outage, you can run your sump pump on a rechargeable battery pack if you are not quite ready to invest in a generator. A battery backup system is built into many newer models of sump pumps. In case your main sump pump breaks down or needs help, you may also want to buy a second battery-powered sump pump.
